Yes You Can Stay Fit During Pregnancy

Yes, you can stay fit during pregnancy, and no, bending over the white porcelain bowl does not count as exercise. Pregnancy contains many precious moments and most we will treasure forever. Our pregnancy should contain many memories of how we made choices to stay fit during our pregnancy by keeping active. There are many benefits of staying fit during pregnancy finding out what they are can help to keep you and your unborn baby healthy.

Staying active during your pregnancy can help to keep you feeling good not only about your health but about your body image as well. Exercise tends to increase your sense of control over your body. Doing your exercise routines will also increase your energy level. Feeling energetic always feels better than being fatigued.

During your pre-natal appointment you will discuss with your healthcare provider the level of fitness you had prior to getting pregnant. Your current health status will also impact how much and what types of exercise will be appropriate for you to do during pregnancy.

You can also benefit from exercising because doing your fitness program can mean that you are less likely to become constipated, can reduce friction on your joints by lubricating them, and can also relieve backaches by improving your posture and by strengthening muscles of your back, buttocks and also those of your thighs.

Staying fit during pregnancy helps you to maintain proper weight, which improves your health. Exercise helps to prepare your body for birth because a healthy body functions better in all capacities including giving birth. Fit, strong muscles are needed to efficiently push the baby out of your body. Your muscles are strengthened by exercise. You may also find that by exercising on a regular basis you have more stamina, lower blood pressure and a better outlook on life.

You may not always feel like exercising because of the aches and pains of pregnancy but once you realize that exercise can help to relieve some of those aches and pains you will be more willing to push yourself to get up and start moving.

It is important to listen to your body and never to overdue it especially when pregnant.

Make sure that you have that conversation with your healthcare provider at the beginning of your pregnancy so that you will know in advance what exercise is appropriate for you and what types of exercise you should avoid during pregnancy. Your doctor can also tell you what are the warning signs to listen to while you exercise.

If you are pregnant and exercising and experience high blood pressure, contractions, bleeding from the vagina, or a premature rupture of membranes (your amniotic water leaks or gushes), or any unusual pain, or discomfort; you need to see your healthcare provider immediately and of course stop exercising.

Exercises that are beneficial for pregnant women include swimming, water aerobics, yoga, Pilates, walking, dancing, and even biking. Discuss your interests with your doctor so that you have a wide array of choices.
