Although they are the most common type of headaches, tension headaches are the least understood of all. Stress is believed to be the major cause of tension or tension type headaches.

-    Quitting smoking.

Behavioral improvement methods target relaxation of muscular tension. They also aim at inculcating a positive frame of mind. The behavioral training also includes an understanding of the physiological processes that take place during a headache so that patients are in a better position to control them.

The therapy also helps in identifying the root cause of the stress so that the same can be avoided in future situations.

Modification of lifestyles provides the twin advantages of minimal side effects, if any, and insignificant cost. Admittedly these modifications require a conscious effort and a strong commitment but once learnt they can effectively relieve stress and reduce or eliminate dependence upon drugs as well.
