When parents send their children to an after school program, they take it for granted their child will be safe. However, since the number of children participating in these activities has increased and considering the world we live in, it is necessary to look into safety issues our children may face when out of the house.
Children are vulnerable when they are outside the classes. While going or returning, they should know the safest route to take.
Many kids hang out with their friends just after these classes. Find out ‘danger zones’ from your neighbors and make the children aware of these and show them several alternate routes to and from school.
The child needs to know how to handle emergencies. It is better to discuss various scenarios with your child, telling her what she should do in case the class is suddenly canceled. Show her the First-Aid kit at home and make sure she knows whom to call in an emergency.

European children were once given “dilly pillows” filled with aromatic herbs such as Lavender and Dill to send them off to dreamland. The scent was also considered a digestive. Add Chamomile and Thyme to prevent Nightmares.
Dilly Pillow
(prepare one cup total)
* Lavender flowers
* Hops strobiles
* Lemon-balm leaves
* Chamomile flowers
* Dill seeds
Fold a 5″ x10″ piece of cloth in half and sew up the edges, leaving just enough room to stuff the herbs inside. Combine the herbs in equal parts to make 1 cup. Stuff the herbs into the material, then finish sewing it up. Place beside or under the child’s regular pillow.

Children love it when their bath water smells good. Lavender and Roman Chamomile are good choices for small children. It is best to add the essential oils to some milk or liquid soap before adding to the tub. Use 1-3 total drops per bath. Be sure to keep all bottles of essential oils away from children

Sprouting your own kitchen castoffs couldn’t be simpler, as you’ll soon see from the following instructions. It requires little in the way of equipment: just some planting containers, sterile soilless mix (to minimize the risk of disease), and some ziptop bags (which help maintain the high-humidity environment seeds relish).
Furthermore, carrots, sweet potatoes and even avocados will happily sprout on almost any bright windowsill, though some extra heat–provided by a nearby radiator, perhaps–will hasten germination. Citrus and grape seeds clearly prefer warmth, which we provided by nestling them next to the kitchen radiator.
The only other thing you’ll need for your jungle in the making is a dollop of patience: Some plants, like carrots, sprout almost instantly, while others germinate at a more leisurely pace. Our grapes waited a full month before making an appearance, but then graced us with the most enchanting seedlings imaginable: yellow-green leaves edged with pink set atop tiny red stems.

These naturally scented finger paints are easy to make, and a lot of fun to play with. Kids of all ages will love discovering the different scents of these paints as they create beautiful pictures and designs. Using finger paints is also a great way to help develop creativity, motor skills, and hand-eye coordination in younger children.
Instructions:
In a small cup or bowl, mix 1/4 cup of liquid laundry starch with 1 tsp. powdered tempera paint (5 drops of food coloring will also work if powdered tempera paints are not available).
Repeat the step above using different colors of powdered tempera paint until you have a good variety of colors (4-6 colors is usually sufficient).
Mix 3-5 drops of a different essential oil with each color of paint. Some good combinations are: Lavender for purple or blue; Pine, Spruce, or fir for green; Peppermint for red or white; Chamomile for yellow; Spearmint for blue; and Clove or Wintergreen for brown. You can also try coming up with your own unique combinations.

We don’t generally consider children as having stressful lives, but when you think about how busy they are and we are as well, always rushing around to school, sports, lessons and so on, we can begin to appreciate that they are under significant pressure. This can definitely have a negative effect on their lives in many areas.
Yoga can help children deal with these pressures and learn techniques to help them to face life’s challenges more easily. Yoga is a noncompetitive activity that can foster self-esteem and awareness of one’s body for youngsters. Kids can learn methods for relaxation, inner peace and self-health. This can help them develop compassion and cooperation as opposed to opposition.
Physically, the benefits of practicing Yoga for children range from improving flexibility to enhancing strength and coordination. Their sense of calmness, relaxation and concentration also improve.

Many adults have taken up Yoga, but Yoga has not gained as the same popularity with children. Child Yoga can offer many of the same benefits to kids as it does to adults.
What can yoga offer your child?
A healthier body – Childhood obesity is on the rise and one of the main reasons for it is that kids today do not move enough. Yoga is a powerful technique for children to begin moving their bodies in ways that feel good and help them look good. Even if your child is of normal weight, yoga can help her become stronger, gain endurance and flexibility. If your child is involved in another sport, a regular yoga practice is a great cross training activity and it may help him reduce the risk of injuries.

What can children and parents gain from practicing Yoga together? When should I start teaching Yoga to my son or daughter? What about Mommy and Me classes? Let’s cover a bit of ground, and establish some realistic expectation for parents and children.
What can children and parents gain from practicing Yoga together? “The sky is the limit,” as they say. Children and parents need more bonding time. We need to eat together and find activities that solidify our relationships. Mommy and Me Yoga classes offer a chance for families to bond, while children are impressionable.
Like any activity, Yoga can be practiced at an early age. As long as Yoga practice is supervised, and the teacher is knowledgeable, parent and child will benefit in many ways. Parents who have no knowledge of Yoga should consider toddler classes or the Mommy and Me Yoga classes.
