Battling the Misery of Colds and Flu - Learn How Natural Remedies Can Help

Most people would give almost anything to relieve the misery cold and flu symptoms can bring. You can take over-the-counter medications, but they frequently have side effects such as making you drowsy. There are some natural remedies you can use to help relieve the symptoms of the common cold and flu.

When suffering from cold or flu, make sure that you blow your nose often instead of sniffing it back into your head. Don’t blow your nose hard as this can create pressure which may lead to an ear ache. The proper way to blow your nose is to place a finger over one of your nostrils while blowing gently to clear the other nostril. Always make sure you wash your hands afterwards to help prevent the spread of germs.

It’s always beneficial to get plenty of rest while you have the cold or flu as the human body needs rest in order to heal. When you conserve energy by resting, your body can then utilize that energy to heal.

Home Remedies for Asthma

Children and adults all over the world are now suffering from attacks of asthmaAsthma is a chronic condition that includes shrinking of the breathing passages, shortness of breath, and wheezing.  Mucus accumulates in the airways making breathing difficult.

The attacks are so severe that sometimes a trip to the emergency room is called for.  Excess mucus and the shrinking of the airways and inflammation make breathing difficult.

It is important to control asthma and prevent attacks if possible.  Avoiding triggers for asthma attacks is the best prevention.  There are other ways of preventing attacks and a few can be found in your home.

First, try sitting in a cool place and practice deep breathing.  Try to relax; it will release tension in your body and in your air passages.  Drink one cup of hot coffee or tea without milk.  Milk can cause excess mucus.  Or drink a hot cup of water.  The liquids should be as hot as you can stand without burning your throat.

While you are boiling water, hold a towel over your head and lean over the boiling pot.  Turn on the shower on hot and wait until the steam starts rolling.  Stick your head inside the shower so you can breathe the steam.

Naturally relieve flu, cold symptoms

Homeopathic remedy temporarily relieves symptoms of the flu or cold like cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat and fatigue

Stifle the sniffles and sneezes…

There are particular times throughout the year when falling victim to coughs, sniffles, sneezes, running noses, fevers, chills, headaches and ‘stuffy’ heads is more likely.

Similarly, people who travel on vacation or business may contract the flu virus when they least expect it. And because germs are able to mutate – it makes it hard for our immune system to keep up!

Most germs spread through the air but they are also spread by other means like hands, door handles, or even the faucets of public restrooms. The human body is designed to detect these ‘outsiders’ and the immune system kicks into gear – trying desperately to restore balance.

That’s why we suffer with a running nose and fever – it’s our body’s way of fighting back but doesn’t leave us feeling very good. Also, not everyone’s immune system is strong enough to fight back.

The natural way

An Asthma Story: From ER Frequent Flier to Letterman in Track - Naturally

Asthma, which is a chronic disease that affects your airways (the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs), can be a very scary ailment both for the asthma sufferer and for the people who love him or her. More than 14 million people in the United States have this lung disease. Of these, almost 5 million are children.

Being a parent of a child with asthma, I’ve learned a great deal about this disease. And, being a practitioner in the natural health care field, I’ve found several methods which have worked beautifully with my daughter.

Kaitlyn’s Story

Kaitlyn, who is now nearly 18, was on the “Frequent Flyer Program” at our local hospital from the age of 8 to 14. The Frequent Flyer Program meant I could tote her in at any time of day or night and go straight back to the doc and nurses for immediate care - no check in, no forms, no wait. This is due to the fact that when Kait was in what is called an “Acute Asthma Phase” with her cough-variant asthma, we would typically be in ER 2-4 times a week, sometimes arriving there by ambulance.

Managing Bronchitis Symptoms and Knowing the Treatment

Inflammation of the respiratory tract that includes the trachea and the bronchus is known as bronchitis. This may be caused by viral or bacterial infection or constant exposure to pollutants (such as smoking and air pollution). There are two kinds, acute and chronic bronchitis.

Acute bronchitis usually takes place right after an infection of the upper respiratory tract has occurred like a sinus infection or the common cold. As for chronic bronchitis, there is no exact microorganism that can be pinpointed as a cause but smoking and environmental pollutants are believed to be the major culprits which then may be followed by bacterial or viral infection as the immune system becomes vulnerable.

Common symptoms of both kinds of bronchitis are nasal congestion, muscle pains, fever and chills, sore throat, poor sleep, and dyspnea (common in chronic bronchitis). Basically, the symptoms of bronchitis are similar to that of the common cold.

It starts with an irritation at the back of the throat and as it gets worse, cough will enter the picture which may come with phlegm. If the phlegm is streaked with blood, it is best to consult a physician.

Have you been getting any colds this Season?

by Warren Matthews of Xtend-Life

I received this email from Vera, a customer, a couple of weeks ago which I thought that I would share with you.

It’s quite typical really. Most people can avoid cold’s and flu’s by simple prevention methods.

“Last November the nurse from my husband’s Company asked him if he wasn’t going to have flu jab. He said he wasn’t interested because he was taking some supplements (Viral Protec). She wasn’t very happy about it and said it wouldn’t protect him from flu virus.

We shall see, he replied to her. Anyway, now it is February and there are about 6 people from his office off sick with flu, and all of them took the jab. Sounds like a joke don’t you think? He has come through the winter without flu and, even better, without symptoms of rhinitis. He also takes Total Balance and Omega 3 (almost two years now) and he’s very happy with the lot”
