It generally affects children, teens and youth. In the United States the usual age for diagnosis is around age 14. Type 1 Diabetes is when there is a deficiency or lack of Insulin in the body.
The pancreatic cells quit producing insulin for an unknown reason. When there is not enough insulin in the blood, the blood glucose level rises unchecked. Symptoms of hyperglycemia can result from a too-high glucose level in the blood.
