When your child is teething it is never easy, for the child or the parent. This blend may help to take the ‘edge’ off your little ones’ anguish.
* 3ml Lavender (Lavendula angustifolium)
* 2ml Petitgrain (Citrus aurantium)
Combine these two oils together in a dark 5ml bottle, seal and invert to blend. This blend can then be added to a massage oil (using the chart above) for gentle massages before bedtime. Cool compresses of either Lavender or Chamomile hydrosols along the jawline may also be helpful to relieve the irritation.

Colic, unexplained, persistent crying in healthy babies, which affects 10-50% of all babies in their first three months of life, often leaves parents “ready to try almost anything”. In New York City, where 60% of newborns now have at least one foreign-born parent, natural options for treating Colic from around the world pass among immigrants, and are tried even by parents whose own ancestors “came over on the Mayflower”.
Author Nina Bernstein talked with pediatricians and parents from a variety of cultural backgrounds about Colic remedies. Tight swaddling, warm baths, belly bands, and cowrie shell bracelets have all taken their place alongside such traditional American “machine age” methods as long rides in the car. Some are now found in copyrighted, mass-market versions such as “Miracle Blanket”, “Lull-a-Band” , or teddy bears which mimic womb sounds). Many colic remedies are herbal, and involve either teas or massage oils, reflecting, one health administrator said, “a population that isn’t used to popping pills to deal with pain”.

Parents are never sure of the precautions that they should take to ensure the safety of their infants. To add to the concerns, they frequently hear news that inadequate safety measures (and not SIDS) are the actual reasons behind the increase in infant deaths. Nothing can be more unsettling for parents who are concerned with the safety of their Newborn.
Governmental institutions publish standards for cribs and crib beddings regularly. However, when we go out shopping somehow or the other, factors like price and appearance of the product take over and safety is relegated to a corner. The irony is that this happens not only with the uninformed but also with parents who are conversant with safety regulations and are primarily concerned about safety of their child.
An exceptionally large blanket can potentially lead to the same hazardous affect as a soft mattress or a pillow that traps exhaled carbon dioxide and leads to re-breathing by an infant in the crib.

Shopping for mattresses was never as easy as it is now. With numerous stores, online and otherwise, there are more options now, than ever before. From standard or custom size mattresses that fit cribs and full size beds, from foam to innerspring to organic mattresses, you have choices that suit different budgets and needs.
Time and tide wait for no one. The young baby that the nurse handed to you in the hospital has outgrown the crib and it is now time for you to look for a bed for his size and a mattress to fit it.
Good quality cribs have crib hangers that allow the floor of the crib to be lowered so that the baby does not tip over as he grows in height. As your baby grows you can keep lowering the floor to suit his height. But ultimately he is bound to outgrow the crib and you will have to make a new purchase.

Mass production has dealt a stunning blow to the customized product market of practically every product. Crib mattresses are one of the products that has been hit the hardest. It is becoming increasingly difficult to locate mattresses like the ones made by family run businesses that paid special attention to the customer’s needs and specific requirements.
Economies of scale have encouraged most mattress brands to use synthetic foam produced in huge plants. The only thing that distinguishes mattresses of one brand from another is the pillow top and fabric used to cover the same foam underneath.
Mattress manufacturers seem to have developed a technique of providing multi-layers of cushioning foam over high density foam, which is firm enough to provide support. It all boils down to the same foam underneath with a pillow top that has been doctored to give a feeling of softness on the top for easy marketability.

Contrary to the popular perception, there is a vast difference between a comforter, a bedspread and a blanket. A comforter is a multipurpose item of bedding that serves as a bed sheet and a blanket. When it is not in use, it can be used to cover the crib mattress and when it is sleep time it serves as a blanket that keeps the baby warm. A light weighted down crib comforter will also serve the purpose of swaddling an infant so that he does not disturb his own sleep by moving too much.
A baby blanket is woven as a fabric using cotton, woolen or synthetic yarn, as the case may be. The type of yarn used is super soft and woven in a manner that it gives a fluffy and velvet-like feel. A comforter, on the other hand, is soft fabric that is stitched and filled with layers of materials like down feathers and polyester, wool or silk fibers. This forms the shell of the comforter. It is sometimes covered with two thin sheets stitched together for protection. With increased number of layers, a protected comforter is warmer.

A hooded bath towel is very convenient for wrapping babies and toddlers after a bath. For that matter even adults can make good use of it. There are times when kids do not what to dress up for a while after a bath. A hooded towel will cover them from head to toe and keep them warm, ensuring that there is no significant change in temperature as soon as the baby is taken out of the bath.
Hooded towels are available in online stores and otherwise also. You can make your own hooded towel if you are not new to sewing. You can even hand stitch it if you do not own a sewing machine.
You will need a regular or a toddler bath towel, a hand towel and some ribbon. One hand towel will make two hoods. You can even use a towel fabric that is available in yardage for the purpose. This will give you freedom to cut the fabric according to the size you require.
