Relief from Tension Headache using Behavioral Methods

Although they are the most common type of headaches, tension headaches are the least understood of all. Stress is believed to be the major cause of tension or tension type headaches.

Most of the beliefs surrounding the cause are, however, based on speculating hypotheses that have little hard evidence. It is a fact however, that causative or consequent stress can affect your overall health to a great extent.

Tension headaches are usually not the result of an underlying disease. However, they can be crippling enough to handicap an individual to a great extent. Chronic tension headache can potentially hamper your relationships, affect productivity at work and negatively influence the quality of your life.

This is the major reason why most of the people want quick relief and commonly resort to taking fast- acting analgesics.

Drugs are not the only option of effectively treating tension type headaches. For many individuals with headaches that recur in scattered and irregular or unpredictable instances, consistent practice of behavioral modification can actually lead to a reduction in the frequency and severity of the pain. In many others, behavioral therapy may help in managing emotions and coping with stress.

Temporary relief of croup, barking cough in children

Homeopathic remedy temporarily relieves croup and barking cough in babies and children

A helping hand for a cough

Young children (6 months to 3 years) often find themselves afflicted with a rather hoarse-sounding cough and a chesty noise when inhaling, also known as croup or a barking cough. Many times a child may seem fine when going to bed – only to wake up later in the night with this type of cough and trouble breathing.

A child who is not breathing freely often becomes agitated and flustered – which often makes matters worse. Young infants and small children have much smaller airways than adults, and so any inflammation, swelling or irritation caused by a build up of mucus can cause the trachea and bronchial tubes to become blocked.

Smaller children suffering with this bronchial obstruction will usually also have a hoarse voice, decreased appetite and a fever, which is usually low grade, but worth keeping an eye on.

Although they may have trouble breathing, children with spasmodic coughing often don’t have a fever, and get better quickly after several hours. Be sure to watch your child’s color - if he or she has a high fever, appears sallow or seems overly lethargic, it is wise to seek further medical advice.
